Surroundings of Ganna offers plenty of exciting sights and programs for visitors.

Thermal Spa in Pápa

In Pápa, which is one of the nicest baroque towns, has a thermalbath, where you can visit the swimming pools, the wellness-centre and therapy all the year. The adventure pools are waiting for its guests with its pools, giant slides and springtower in summer. It is worth trying it for every age-group. The tehrmal water is hydrogen-carbonated water, which is suitable for treating locomotor diseases. You can use even sauna, massage and curative pools. Outside there are sports-grounds and a huge sunbathe garden, Of course beach pools are waiting for you from spring to autumn. We recommend you to take a walk in Pá-pa, in the beautiful baroque downtown to visit the Great Church and the Esterházy Castle. 

The castle of „Szarvaskő” in Döbrönte

The castle of „Szarvaskő” is located in the neighbourhood of Ganna, next to Döbrönte on the top of an ascent hill. It was built in 1367 by Himfy Benedek. It had no military significant, it was rather a knight castle. Later its lords often looted the neighbouring properties. The castle may have been destroyed by Turkish troops on the loot in the 1560s. Nowadays visitors can only see the ruins of its walls, even though the interesting architecture of the castle can be amired. There is a magnificant view of the neighbouring villages, hills, the Small Plain and the volcanic hill of Somló in the distance. If you want to reach the castle hill in the quickest way, start from the playground in the village centre. This area is an excellent hiking place, in addition you can go sledging here in winter

Eszterházy Castle

In Eszterházy Castle visitors can take a look at beautiful rooms with baroque interior. You can have an insight into the lives of the Eszterházys, into the luxorious baroque lifestyle. Children can look back to the past with the help of puppet shows, short plays. They can take home the toys and puppets made by them. Youngsters can learn about the old manners, they can have dance classes and hear about the art of that era and how people dressed at that time. In the so-called Nador-room, which has excellent acustics, classical concerts are organized regularly.

Esterházy Church and Mausoleum in Ganna

It was built between 1813 and 1818. The pattern of the church is circular and it is roofed with a horizontal bell. The mausoleum is a sepulchral vault. It is like the little Pantheon. It was designed by an excellent French architect, Karl von Moreau. The wonderful sandstone statues were carved by an Austrian sculptor, Josef Klieber. The crypt belonged to the Eszterházy-family. In additon, the Saint Vendel Chapel, which was built by Eszterházy Károly, is near the village.

Somló Hill

The cellars of the Somló Hill can satisfy the needs of all wine-lovers. It is the region of white grapes, white wines. Several kinds of wines can be found here such as „Furmint”, „Juhfark”, „Hárslevelű”, „Tramini” and „Olaszrizling”. Thes wines are rich in acids, alcolhol and they have strong odour due to the long fermentation. The castle of Somló, which was first recorded in 1093, has a distinctive feature: it is not on the highest point of the hill. There is a breath-taking view from the look-out tower. On a clear day the snowy peaks of the Alps can even be seen from here.  

„Malom” fishing pond and recreation centre in Pápa

The fishing pond is located in a well-tended recreation centre, the area of which is 6 ha. Visitors can find a football field, a playground, they can stroke animals here. The pond, with its little islands, offers a special atmosphere for those who adore fishing and nature itself. In winter people can come here for skating and ice hole fishing. In case of bad weather visitors can stay in our huge tent near the lake: they can play billiards, table tennis, table football and board games. In the snack bar people can taste the falvours of the local dishes and experience our villages’ atmosphere.

Roman Catholic Church and Calvaria in Magyarpolány

The church and the calvaria was built between 1761-1773 in baroque style. Hoffpauer Já-nos, who lived in a nearby town, in Zirc, erected it on behalf of Haschke, who was an abbot in Heinrichau. It was rebuilt in 1861 after a fire. The facade of the church is simple. Inside, however, there are intresting frescos from the 18th century, which depict some scenes of Saint László’s, Saint Stephan’s and Saint Cecilia’s life. The elaborate pulpit and two confessionals are valuable wood carvings. It was erected around 1770 and it is situated on the hill. There are straight stairs leading to the chapel on the hilltop. Near the stairs there are five tent-shaped stations of the cross with wooden statues. The wooden Cross on the hilltop was made in 1930, the „Piéta” underneath was amde in 1901 and the statue of the Holy Trinitywas amde in 1890. It is worth taking a walk here from Ganna through the forest. In the village Kossuth Lajos Street leads to the church and then up to the calvaria and the chapel.

Great Church in Pápa

The monumental building of the St. Stephen the Martyr Parish Church erected in honor rises in the middle of the spacious baroque Main square. The building length of 42 meters and a width of 22 meters, the height of the towers 72 meters. The Parish Church, which Papaian people has called Great Church was built on the site of the medieval church has mentioned in various charters since 1397. From the old engravings and the description of the Parish Priest Gaspar Pongracz made in 1773 it can be concluded that the dimensions of the old church were significant like today. The new church was built by Count Charles Esterhazy Bishop of Eger from 1774 to 1786. The church was designed by Jakab Fellner (1722-1780) architect and because of illness of Jakab Fellner from the 1777 Joseph Grossmann (1747-1785) took over the management in construction.

Benedictine Abbey and Monastery in Bakonybél

The Benedictine Abbey of Bakonybél is a significant memory of St. Stephen Church founder's activities. The Baroque church and convent building still stands at the site of one of the earliest domestic church, surrounded by the environment Bakony forest for the monastic community is the ideal place to retreat from the world.

House of the Bakony Forests Museum in Bakonybél

Forestry and hunting exhibition, flora and fauna of the Bakony, rocks. House of the Forests is waiting for the visitors in a new part of the building with updated content in Bakonybél. The renovation of the old farm buildings of the Abbey of Zirc created a possibility to be able to develop the collection of conservation and forestry in the former granary. The ground-floor hall of the collection shows itself the nature: the mountains geologic past, the main rocks, minerals, interesting geological phenomena. A protected plant of the major plant communities come to front of us in the photographs . We can get to know with the former measuring, mapping tools and the work of a forest director engineer who was able to take account of the values of nature.

Porcelanium Visitor Center in Herend

The unique, impressive building complex, which hosts Porcelanium Visitor Centre appears from far away for the traveler. The mission of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory is also evident in this place: beyond the production of high quality porcelain creates ideal conditions to promotes this particular profession and technology to give further the traditions of arts and crafts. Since 1999, the Minimanufactory found a home here, where visitors peek into the making of porcelain. Those who would like to become a "master porcelain maker," can take into his hand the raw porcelain dough or paint brushes, the workshops also provide an opportunity to test the creation. The Victoria Brand Shop is located on the opposite wing of the Porcelanium. The permanent collections and each year renewable temporary exhibitions of the Porcelain Art Museum describe the development history of the manufactory.

 

Arboretum of Zirc

The Arboretum is a world's listed wooded garden collection. No part of the Ancient Bakony, but forward-thinking people's creation. The 20-acre arboretum was founded by the Cistercian Abbey to rescue the tree species and herbaceous plants of Bakony. The area of the arboretum today a collection of tree species and other plants collected in the territory of Hungary is woody and herbaceous plants from the five continents of the world that feel comfortable in the High Bakony above 400 m sea level microclimate. The bench is interesting buildings of the Arboretum where chamber music competitions have been organized in the the 1930s and following the tradition in 1990-ies. The memorial site founded in 1934 of Békefi Remig abbot cultural historian is seen in the shade of a lime tree group of the garden center. Collection of LIVE TREES lying on highest place in Hungary.
